FaceBook, formerly TheFaceBook.com (2005) is now the proud owner of FB.com – and I predict it’s use as a URL shortener and/or an email domain for all of those with {profile.name}@facebook.com email addresses. The social network paid 8.5 Million dollars for the domain. Here’s a Mashable post announcing the sale based on financial records of the Farm Bureau.
Facebook acquired the domain sometime last year from the American Farm Bureau Federation, which uses fb.org as its primary domain. At its annual meeting in Atlanta, the non-profit revealed that it earned $8.5 million on the sale of fb.com, according to Reuters.
The last high-profile domain purchase by Facebook was for Facebook.com, all the way back when it was known as TheFacebook.
