Selecting the right
keywords is the first step in any professional search
engine optimization job. And in the past, this has been
a very trying process.
Many professional
search engine optimization companies charge thousands
of dollars for this one function alone. However, a new
service called WordTracker promises to bring some sanity
back to the keyword selection process.
The problem in selecting
keywords is that if you focus on a keyword or keyword
phrase that is too competitive your chances of ranking
in the top ten drop dramatically. Likewise, if you select
some obscure keyword or keyword phrase, you might rank
highly for that specific term or phrase, however, it will
not result in any significant increase in your web site
traffic.
The new WordTracker
service seems has gone a long way in solving this dilemma
by giving you a tool to capture all the information you
need about the keywords that are relevant to your web
site.
In an interview with
Spider-Food.net, Andy Mindel
of WordTracker.com had the following to say:
"When we first
started our search engine campaign we wanted to find
all the keywords possible for our two businesses. We
used GoTo.com, but it lacked in so many important features
such as word stemming, plurals. It also contained a
skew from both listing words on the front and people
checking their positions in GoTo.com, using products
such as Web Position Gold.
We were blessed
with an extremely high position in Infoseek (position
2) for the keyword 'search engine positioning' according
to Goto we were to receive over 100 visitors per day.
We braced ourselves for all these extra people. We received
5 - and that was for the week!
So we decided to
create Wordtracker, an unbiased place where we could
find all the words we needed with the utmost flexibility.
Taking words from popular metacrawlers so the bias from
the programs wouldn't be picked up. As we started more
and more people started to express an interest. Each
person had an idea how they would like Wordtracker to
be. We listened to everyone, and have produced what
we have today."
Well, it seems that
they have delivered on the customer's needs. And on the
next page we'll compare how WordTracker stacks up against
their competition with a side by side comparison.
I think you'll be
as impressed as I was.
